Kimberley, Western Australia

This is a small collection of images from a trip to the Kimberley region in Western Australia. Kimberley is a fairly wild area in the north of Australia. It is relatively small by Australian standards (about three times the size of England), but it is famous for its impressive variety of landscapes and nature as well as its relative inaccessibility. Unlike England, the Kimberley's road system is simplicity itself - the area is crossed by three major roads (only one of them bitumen) and a bunch of rough 4wd tracks. Most of the area is inaccessible during the wet season when the rivers flood and turn into raging torrents, and is open for travel for about 5-6 months a year. Even that is dependent on the capability of your 4wd and your tolerance for heat and humidity - I would consider only the three coolest months to be a comfortable climate.

Gibb River Road

Gibb River road is a major road serving cattle stations in the north of Kimberley (being a major road does not mean it is not corrigated and dusty). It crosses a rather spectacular gorge country. Overall, the scenery is a variation on the same rhapsody of blue, red, and green as Northern Territory (see some pictures here, but the nuances are different. I won't try to analyse them; here are the pictures, judge for yourselves.
